anybody know how reliable this place is? or has anybody dealt with them? http://www.weaknees.com/tivo_pioneer_810h.php they said in an email to me that they can upgrade my pioneer520hs. they said "just let us know what size hdd". i'm real curious as to how reliable they are, seeing as how doing this yourself looks like more trouble than it's worth for the average person wanting an upgrade.

Rock solid reputation. These are the pros in the TiVo market for Tivo hard drives and upgrades. TiVo uses some kind of Unix blend for the hard drives and Weaknees handles that for users. I bought a HD upgrade for one of my TiVos from them. Reliable, and fast shipping. Great support is my undertsanding although the kit they provide was such I never needed to contact them.
I'd trust them with any piece of equipment. Anytime. Good company. -
thanks for the responses. my only worry was that because i own a non tivo box, i'd have to send them the whole unit. or maybe i'd have to pull the drive myself and send that in? gonna have to mail them and find out. i would definitely want the original drive back as well though, as a backup.

Weaknees used to show up on The Screen Savers every so often to talk about what they could help the TIVO do as far as upgrading their boxes. I remember the staff thought very highly of the guys from Weaknees.
Now that the show is gone and replace with one of G4 idiotic gamer dedicated shows...we'll never see anything PC related that's cool again.Regards,
JC

I've bought an upgrade bracket for my Series 1 SA Tivo and their TwinBreeze complete kit for my Series 2 DirecTivo.
The Series 1 SA bracket didn't fit quite as well the bracket I bought from 9thtee for my other Tivo, but otherwise it was fine. The TwinBreeze kit was flawless.
I've not had any problems w/orders from them and I know of others who have bought Twinbreeze kits w/o incident.
